The Challenge
This position manages activities related to purchasing, material requirements planning, inventory control, warehousing, and receiving. Manages and coordinates others in purchasing, warehousing, distribution, and financial forecasting activities that limit costs and improve customer service. Implement supply chain processes that support business strategies adapted to changing market conditions, new business opportunities, and cost reduction strategies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manages the material control functions with the plan including master scheduling, shop floor control, inventory planning and control, purchasing, MRO crib, packing operations and shipping providing focus and direction on continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, cost reduction, and inventory.
2. Manages the planning and establishment of production schedules, monitoring of material inventories, tracking of progress of production and reviewing of factors which affect production schedules.
3. Manages the purchasing and inventory control functions. Provides support to production scheduling on all material flow issues to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
4. Ensures customer needs are met by coordinating shipping efforts with those of internal (ATG sister sites) and external suppliers.
5. Maintains optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements while maximizing turns, minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges.
6. Partners with ATG Corporate Procurement to quote, negotiate and purchase products based on anticipated manufacturing needs in order to achieve the lowest total cost and highest total quality, while ensuring accurate cost and receipt of products in a production environment.
7. Ensures purchasing practices and policies support honest, fair and ethical relationships with suppliers. Keeps informed on legal matters that affect purchasing policies.
8. Responsible for continuing programs of exploration for new materials, suppliers and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity and delivery.
9. Ensures that the company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all materials department functions.
10. Responsible for the motivation and development of subordinates to optimize their performance and their personal and professional growth.
11. Regular review and feedback on forecasts; provides on-going facility planning to balance capacity versus expected demand; develops alternatives with Business unit on delivery challenges; and manages inventory to Apex Tool Group goals within delivery challenges.
12. Keeps abreast of trends, developments and conditions within supplier markets, to ensure that the company may effectively anticipate and respond to shortages in these markets, and consistently optimize cost savings opportunities.

Skill Requirements
- BS Degree in Materials Management, Sourcing or related field; MBA strongly preferred.
- American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) certification required; ISM certification preferred.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years materials experience that includes purchasing, planning, forecasting and inventory control management in a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience with steel procurement preferred.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and negotiation skills are necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across team and functions.
- Ability to drive process improvements to enhance & streamline planning, purchasing and warehousing processes.
- Extensive experience generating and analyzing statistical forecasts using spreadsheets, SAP and Demand solutions or other forecast tool.
