Production Planner - Scheduler

LOCATION:                 AMZ Manufacturing (York PA)
JOB TYPE:                    Full Time
EDUCATION:               Minimum of a High School diploma, prefer Associates degree or higher.
                                      APICS Certification a plus

EXPERIENCE:              3 – 5+ years

 Job Overview
This position is responsible for planning and scheduling the flow of work from receipt to shipment.

 The mission of this employee is to ensure the delivery of customer orders when they want them, where they want them, and how they want them, while minimizing the total shop cycle time and maximizing total production throughput. The To achieve this mission, the Planner-Scheduler will need to:

  • Have daily communication with the customers, internal team members, and other outside services
  • Choreograph orders that have different routings and multiple sequences
  • Help build standard throughput rates that can be used to improve the flow of orders from work center to work center
  • Minimize WIP
  • Ensure specified time constraints between operations are met, i.e. priming of a blasted part
  • Identify capacity constraints and offer solutions to increase capacity to meet demand. 
  • Have the ability to read and interpret PO’s, drawings, work orders, process instructions and other documents that communicate the expectations of the customer order.
  • Use an Access database, Excel, Word and other related software to plan, schedule and communicate.
  • Use MRP and inventory control tools from time to time as projects and jobs demand
  • Establish processes and procedures for planning and scheduling of new and existing business 
  • Assist in receiving parts, sorting parts, counting parts, packaging parts, skid prep work, shipping parts and delivering parts and other requirements as needed. 
  • Have regular communication, both written and verbal, to your direct supervisor. 
  • Use and help develop performance metrics for planning and scheduling that relate to Safety, Quality, Customer Service, Productivity and other specified objectives.

  • Plan and Schedule a 3 shift Operation with up to 10 production lines
  • Drive schedule results, i.e. OTD to Commit and Required, Turn-Times, Productivity Standards
  • Be the Voice of The Customer
  • Communicate the status of jobs both internal and external customers
  • Use the Theory of Constraints methodology
  • Beginning of Day (BOD) and End of Day (EOD) meetings
  • Off-shift communication lists
  • Reports: work-load, Line Targets, Employee utilization, Customer Service (cycle times, OTD, etc)
  • Weekend coverage rotation
  • Training matrix and training
  • Help coordinate Over-Time Requirements
  • Available by phone for off-shift questions about the schedule
  • Daily Line meetings
  • Work Closely with Scheduling
  • Confirm work staged in advanced
  • Expedite Rush Orders through the shop
  • Manage to Key Performance Indicators - Sales Targets, Right First Time (RFT) On-Time-Delivery (OTD), Performance to Plan (PTP), Cycle-Time, Safety and Environmental Measures
  • Lean Six Sigma Training
  • Process Improvement Thinking
  • Eliminate Constraints to meet customer demand

  • Proven proficiency in a production and inventory control environment, using tools such as Infinite and Finite Scheduling, MRP, cycle counting, ABC analysis, capacity planning etc.
  • A basic understanding of the electro-plating and industrial coating process is preferred.
